Looking to God

At Miller Avenue we believe that a loving God created the universe and mankind. God gave us the freedom to choose whether we would love and trust Him or turn away from Him. We believe that Adam and Eve chose to turn away and by this, sin entered the world The conse quences of sin are devastating and include all the hatred, strife, pain, and ultimately death that are in the world. But God so loved us that He was unwilling to abandon us to hopeless spiral of sin and death. Instead, by His grace and love, He sent His Son Jesus into the world. We believe that Jesus was born of the virgin Mary and that He lived a sinless life and died for us. In that death, He paid the price for the sins of all who will believe in Him.

We also believe that three days after His death and burial that Jesus rose again from the grave and showed Himself alive to His disciples with many convincing proofs. He then ascended to Heaven where He sits at the Father’s right hand

where He mediates between God and mankind. We believe that all who would come to the Father must do so through Him. We believe that He gladly receives all who come to Him in true faith regardless of race, status, gender or age. We believe that all mankind will one day be called to give an account to Jesus for the life they lived and that all who have genuinely accepted the gift of God’s forgiveness will inherit eternal life with God. All of these beliefs are rooted in the teachings of the Bible which we believe to be inspired by God (2 Tim 3.16). In other words, the men who wrote the books of the Bible were guided in that writing by the Spirit of God. The product of that divine guidance is a book that is both flawlessly accurate and entirely sufficient for the purpose of revealing God’s will to mankind. We believe that the Bible must be given ultimacy in our quest to understand who God is, what He is doing in the world, and how He wants us to live before Him and act toward our fellow man.

We believe the church’s first and greatest obligation is to honor Jesus request that all His people would be as one (John 17:20-23). We view the fragmentation of those claiming to follow Jesus into countless denominations and sects as a sad and unfortunate situation. Our desire and dream is for all believers to unite around the simple and fundamental teachings of scripture.
